1. There is therefore now
no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after
the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.
3. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin,
condemned sin in the flesh:
4. That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk
not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh;
but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is
life and peace.
7. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject
to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit
of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he
is none of his.
10. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the
Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell
in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your
mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after
the flesh.
13. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the
Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of
God.
15. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear;
but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the
children of God:
17. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;
if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18. For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy
to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation
of the sons of God.
20. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by
reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21. Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage
of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22. For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain
together until now.
23. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits
of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the
adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24. For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what
a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25. But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait
for it.
26. Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not
what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession
for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,
because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of
God.
28. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love
God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed
to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he
called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can
be against us?
32. He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how
shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33. Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that
justifieth.
34. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that
is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh
intercession for us.
35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation,
or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36. As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we
are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that
loved us.
38. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39. Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1. Behold, how good
and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
2. It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon
the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;
3. As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains
of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.
1. Let every soul
be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the
powers that be are ordained of God.
2. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of
God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou
then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt
have praise of the same:
4. For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that
which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he
is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth
evil.
5. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for
conscience sake.
6. For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers,
attending continually upon this very thing.
7. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due;
custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
8. Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that
loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
9. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou
shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet;
and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this
saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
10. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling
of the law.
11. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out
of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
12. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast
off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
13. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness,
not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
14. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the
flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
1. And after the uproar was
ceased, Paul called unto him the disciples, and embraced them, and departed
for to go into Macedonia.
2. And when he had gone over those parts, and had given them much exhortation,
he came into Greece,
3. And there abode three months. And when the Jews laid wait for him,
as he was about to sail into Syria, he purposed to return through Macedonia.
4. And there accompanied him into Asia Sopater of Berea; and of the Thessalonians,
Aristarchus and Secundus; and Gaius of Derbe, and Timotheus; and of Asia,
Tychicus and Trophimus.
5. These going before tarried for us at Troas.
6. And we sailed away from Philippi after the days of unleavened bread,
and came unto them to Troas in five days; where we abode seven days.
7. And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together
to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow;
and continued his speech until midnight.
8. And there were many lights in the upper chamber, where they were gathered
together.
9. And there sat in a window a certain young man named Eutychus, being
fallen into a deep sleep: and as Paul was long preaching, he sunk down
with sleep, and fell down from the third loft, and was taken up dead.
10. And Paul went down, and fell on him, and embracing him said, Trouble
not yourselves; for his life is in him.
11. When he therefore was come up again, and had broken bread, and eaten,
and talked a long while, even till break of day, so he departed.
12. And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
13. And we went before to ship, and sailed unto Assos, there intending
to take in Paul: for so had he appointed, minding himself to go afoot.
14. And when he met with us at Assos, we took him in, and came to Mitylene.
15. And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and
the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next
day we came to Miletus.
16. For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend
the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at
Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
17. And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the
church.
18. And when they were come to him, he said unto them, Ye know, from the
first day that I came into Asia, after what manner I have been with you
at all seasons,
19. Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and
temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews:
20. And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have
shewed you, and have taught you publickly, and from house to house,
21. Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward
God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
22. And now, behold, I go bound in the spirit unto Jerusalem, not knowing
the things that shall befall me there:
23. Save that the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying that bonds
and afflictions abide me.
24. But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto
myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which
I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace
of God.
25. And now, behold, I know that ye all, among whom I have gone preaching
the kingdom of God, shall see my face no more.
26. Wherefore I take you to record this day, that I am pure from the blood
of all men.
27. For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.
28. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the
which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God,
which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter
in among you, not sparing the flock.
30. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things,
to draw away disciples after them.
31. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I
ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
32. And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of
his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance
among all them which are sanctified.
33. I have coveted no man's silver, or gold, or apparel.
34. Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my
necessities, and to them that were with me.
35. I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support
the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It
is more blessed to give than to receive.
36. And when he had thus spoken, he kneeled down, and prayed with them
all.
37. And they all wept sore, and fell on Paul's neck, and kissed him,
38. Sorrowing most of all for the words which he spake, that they should
see his face no more. And they accompanied him unto the ship.

1. And as Jesus passed by,
he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2. And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man,
or his parents, that he was born blind?
3. Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but
that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4. I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day:
the night cometh, when no man can work.
5. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
6. When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the
spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,
7. And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation,
Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.
8. The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he
was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?
9. Some said, This is he: others said, He is like him: but he said, I
am he.
10. Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?
11. He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed
mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I
went and washed, and I received sight.
12. Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.
13. They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.
14. And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his
eyes.
15. Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight.
He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.
16. Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because
he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner
do such miracles? And there was a division among them.
17. They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he
hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
18. But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind,
and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had
received his sight.
19. And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born
blind? how then doth he now see?
20. His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son,
and that he was born blind:
21. But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his
eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
22. These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the
Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ,
he should be put out of the synagogue.
23. Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24. Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him,
Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25. He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one
thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
26. Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine
eyes?
27. He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore
would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?
28. Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are
Moses' disciples.
29. We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not
from whence he is.
30. The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing,
that ye know not from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.
31. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper
of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
32. Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes
of one that was born blind.
33. If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.
34. They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins,
and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
35. Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him,
he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
36. He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
37. And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that
talketh with thee.
38. And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
39. And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they
which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40. And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and
said unto him, Are we blind also?
41. Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but
now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
1. Remember now thy
Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the
years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;
2. While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened,
nor the clouds return after the rain:
3. In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong
men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few,
and those that look out of the windows be darkened,
4. And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding
is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters
of musick shall be brought low;
5. Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall
be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper
shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long
home, and the mourners go about the streets:
6. Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or
the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.
7. Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall
return unto God who gave it.
8. Vanity of vanities, saith the preacher; all is vanity.
9. And moreover, because the preacher was wise, he still taught the people
knowledge; yea, he gave good heed, and sought out, and set in order many
proverbs.
10. The preacher sought to find out acceptable words: and that which was
written was upright, even words of truth.
11. The words of the wise are as goads, and as nails fastened by the masters
of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.
12. And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many
books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.
13. Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God,
and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
14. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing,
whether it be good or whether it be evil.

1. Except the Lord
build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep
the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread
of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
3. Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of
the womb is his reward.
4. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth.
5. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not
be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.
1. Whoso loveth instruction
loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2. A good man obtaineth favour of the Lord: but a man of wicked devices
will he condemn.
3. A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous
shall not be moved.
4. A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed
is as rottenness in his bones.
5. The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked
are deceit.
6. The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth
of the upright shall deliver them.
7. The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the
righteous shall stand.
1. The heavens declare the
glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
3. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
4. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the
end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
5. Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as
a strong man to run a race.
6. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto
the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
7. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony
of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment
of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of
the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter
also than honey and the honeycomb.
11. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there
is great reward.
12. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have
dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from
the great transgression.
14. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable
in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
1. A false balance is abomination
to the Lord: but a just weight is his delight.
2. When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.
3. The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness
of transgressors shall destroy them.
4. Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth
from death.
5. The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked
shall fall by his own wickedness.
6. The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors
shall be taken in their own naughtiness.
7. When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope
of unjust men perisheth.
8. The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in
his stead.
9. An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge
shall the just be delivered.
10. When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when
the wicked perish, there is shouting.
11. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown
by the mouth of the wicked.
12. He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding
holdeth his peace.
13. A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit
concealeth the matter.
14. Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers
there is safety.
15. He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth
suretiship is sure.
16. A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.
17. The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel
troubleth his own flesh.
18. The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness
shall be a sure reward.
19. As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth
it to his own death.
20. They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the Lord: but
such as are upright in their way are his delight.
21. Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but
the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
22. As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is
without discretion.
23. The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the
wicked is wrath.
24. There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth
more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.
25. The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall
be watered also himself.
26. He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing
shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
27. He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh
mischief, it shall come unto him.
28. He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall
flourish as a branch.
29. He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool
shall be servant to the wise of heart.
30. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth
souls is wise.
31. Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more
the wicked and the sinner.
1. My son, attend unto my
wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
2. That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
3. For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth
is smoother than oil:
4. But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.
5. Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
6. Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable,
that thou canst not know them.
7. Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words
of my mouth.
8. Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
9. Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
10. Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the
house of a stranger;
11. And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
12. And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;
13. And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear
to them that instructed me!
14. I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.
15. Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters
out of thine own well.
16. Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the
streets.
17. Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.
18. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
19. Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy
thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.
20. And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace
the bosom of a stranger?
21. For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord, and he pondereth
all his goings.
22. His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be
holden with the cords of his sins.
23. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly
he shall go astray.

1. Hear, ye children, the
instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.
2. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law.
3. For I was my father's son, tender and only beloved in the sight of
my mother.
4. He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words:
keep my commandments, and live.
5. Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from
the words of my mouth.
6. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall
keep thee.
7. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy
getting get understanding.
8. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour,
when thou dost embrace her.
9. She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory
shall she deliver to thee.
10. Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life
shall be many.
11. I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right
paths.
12. When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou
runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13. Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is
thy life.
14. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil
men.
15. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.
16. For they sleep not, except they have done mischief; and their sleep
is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.
17. For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18. But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth
more and more unto the perfect day.
19. The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20. My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine
heart.
22. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their
flesh.

1. The preparations of the
heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.
2. All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth
the spirits.
3. Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
4. The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for
the day of evil.
5. Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though
hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
6. By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord
men depart from evil.
7. When a man's ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be

19. Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide
the spoil with the proud.
20. He that handleth a matter wisely shall find good: and whoso trusteth
in the Lord, happy is he.

lips increaseth learning.
22. Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the
instruction of fools is folly.
23. The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his
lips.
24. Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health
to the bones.
25. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof
are the ways of death.
26. He that laboureth laboureth for himself; for his mouth craveth it
of him.
27. An ungodly man diggeth up evil: and in his lips there is as a burning

all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,
2. As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that
ye may grow thereby:
3. If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4. To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but
chosen of God, and precious,
5. Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy
priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus
Christ.
6. Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion
a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall
not be confounded.
7. Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which
be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made
the head of the corner,
8. And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which

they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which
they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
13. Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether
it be to the king, as supreme;
14. Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment
of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well.
15. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence
the ignorance of foolish men:
16. As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness,
but as the servants of God.
17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
18. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the
good and gentle, but also to the froward.
19. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure
grief, suffering wrongfully.
20. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye
shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye
take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.
21. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for

and Bishop of your souls.
1. Rebuke not an elder, but
intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren;
2. The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all
purity.
3. Honour widows that are widows indeed.
4. But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to
shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and
acceptable before God.
5. Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and
continueth in supplications and prayers night and day.
6. But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
7. And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless.
8. But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his
own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
9. Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old,
having been the wife of one man.
10. Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children,
if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints' feet, if
she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every
good work.
11. But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton
against Christ, they will marry;
12. Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith.
13. And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house;
and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which
they ought not.
14. I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide
the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully.
15. For some are already turned aside after Satan.
16. If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them,
and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows
indeed.
17. Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour,
especially they who labour in the word and doctrine.
18. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth
out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.
19. Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three
witnesses.
20. Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.
21. I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect
angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another,
doing nothing by partiality.
22. Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men's sins:

themselves together as one man into the street that was before the water
gate; and they spake unto Ezra the scribe to bring the book of the law
of Moses, which the Lord had commanded to Israel.
2. And Ezra the priest brought the law before the congregation both of
men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first
day of the seventh month.
3. And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate
from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those
that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto
the book of the law.
4. And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made
for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah,
and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left
hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana,
Zechariah, and Meshullam.
5. And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was
above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:
6. And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people answered,
Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and
worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.
7. Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah,
Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused
the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.
8. So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the
sense, and caused them to understand the reading.
9. And Nehemiah, which is the Tirshatha, and Ezra the priest the scribe,
and the Levites that taught the people, said unto all the people, This
day is holy unto the Lord your God; mourn not, nor weep. For all the people
wept, when they heard the words of the law.
10. Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet,
and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day
is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the
Lord is your strength.
11. So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, Hold your peace, for
the day is holy; neither be ye grieved.
12. And all the people went their way to eat, and to drink, and to send
portions, and to make great mirth, because they had understood the words
that were declared unto them.
13. And on the second day were gathered together the chief of the fathers
of all the people, the priests, and the Levites, unto Ezra the scribe,
even to understand the words of the law.
14. And they found written in the law which the Lord had commanded by
Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths in the feast
of the seventh month:
15. And that they should publish and proclaim in all their cities, and
in Jerusalem, saying, Go forth unto the mount, and fetch olive branches,
and pine branches, and myrtle branches, and palm branches, and branches
of thick trees, to make booths, as it is written.
16. So the people went forth, and brought them, and made themselves booths,
every one upon the roof of his house, and in their courts, and in the
courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in
the street of the gate of Ephraim.
17. And all the congregation of them that were come again out of the captivity
made booths, and sat under the booths: for since the days of Jeshua the
son of Nun unto that day had not the children of Israel done so. And there
was very great gladness.
18. Also day by day, from the first day unto the last day, he read in
the book of the law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on
the eighth day was a solemn assembly, according unto the manner.

A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of
his mother.
2. Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth
from death.
3. The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he
casteth away the substance of the wicked.
4. He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand
of the diligent maketh rich.
5. He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in
harvest is a son that causeth shame.
6. Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the
mouth of the wicked.
7. The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall
rot.
8. The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall
fall.
9. He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his
ways shall be known.

22. The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow
with it.
23. It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding
hath wisdom.
24. The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of
the righteous shall be granted.
25. As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous
is an everlasting foundation.
26. As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard
to them that send him.
27. The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked
shall be shortened.
28. The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of
the wicked shall perish.
29. The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but destruction shall
be to the workers of iniquity.
30. The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit
the earth.
31. The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue
shall be cut out.
32. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of
the wicked speaketh frowardness.

your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
2. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment
with promise;)
3. That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
4. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them
up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
5. Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the
flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
6. Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ,
doing the will of God from the heart;
7. With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:
8. Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he

knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of

10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his

11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against
the wiles of the devil.
12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities,
against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against
spiritual wickedness in high places.
13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able
to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having
on the breastplate of righteousness;
15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able
to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which
is the word of God:
18. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and
watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19. And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my
mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,
20. For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly,
as I ought to speak.
21. But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved
brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all
things:
22. Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know
our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
23. Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
24. Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity.

all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears
of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side

4. Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this
a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of
spirit.

9. Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their
labour.
10. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him
that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be
warm alone?
12. And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold
cord is not quickly broken.
13. Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who
will no more be admonished.
14. For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born
in his kingdom becometh poor.

ourselves? or need we, as some others, epistles of commendation to you,
or letters of commendation from you?
2. Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
3. Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ
ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living
God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
4. And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
5. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves;
but our sufficiency is of God;
6. Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the
letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth
life.
7. But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was
glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the
face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be
done away:
8. How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?
9. For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more doth the
ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.
10. For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect,
by reason of the glory that excelleth.
11. For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which
remaineth is glorious.
12. Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13. And not as Moses, which put a vail over his face, that the children
of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14. But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same
vail untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which vail is done
away in Christ.
15. But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their
heart.
16. Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken
away.
17. Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord
is, there is liberty.
18. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the
Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by
the Spirit of the Lord.
1. And it came to pass, that
when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came
into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;
2. And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.
3. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him,
Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
4. And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which
made them at the beginning made them male and female,
5. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall
cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?

12. For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother's
womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and
there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of
heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.
13. Then were there brought unto him little children, that he should put
his hands on them, and pray: and the disciples rebuked them.
14. But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not,
to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
15. And he laid his hands on them, and departed thence.
48. And Laban said, This heap
is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it
called Galeed;
49. And Mizpah; for he said, The Lord watch between me and thee,
when we are absent one from another.
1. A good name is
rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver
and gold.
2. The rich and poor meet together: the Lord is the maker of them all.
3. A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple
pass on, and are punished.
4. By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.
5. Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep
his soul shall be far from them.
6. Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will
not depart from it.
7. The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender.
8. He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger
shall fail.
9. He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his
bread to the poor.
10. Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and
reproach shall cease.
11. He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king
shall be his friend.
12. The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words
of the transgressor.
13. The slothful man saith, There is a lion without, I shall be slain
in the streets.
14. The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: he that is abhorred of the
Lord shall fall therein.
15. Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction
shall drive it far from him.
16. He that oppresseth the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth
to the rich, shall surely come to want.
17. Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine
heart unto my knowledge.
18. For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall
withal be fitted in thy lips.
19. That thy trust may be in the Lord, I have made known to thee this
day, even to thee.
20. Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
21. That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that
thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?
22. Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted
in the gate:
23. For the Lord will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that
spoiled them.
24. Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou
shalt not go:
25. Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
26. Be not thou one of them that strike hands, or of them that are sureties
for debts.
27. If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from
under thee?
28. Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
29. Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings;
he shall not stand before mean men.
1. Fret not thyself because
of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
2. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green
herb.
3. Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and
verily thou shalt be fed.
4. Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires
of thine heart.
5. Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring
it to pass.
6. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment
as the noonday.
7. Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because
of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked
devices to pass.
8. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to
do evil.
9. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord,
they shall inherit the earth.
10. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt
diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves
in the abundance of peace.
12. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his
teeth.
13. The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
14. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast
down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
15. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall
be broken.
16. A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many
wicked.
17. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lord upholdeth
the righteous.
18. The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance
shall be for ever.
19. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine
they shall be satisfied.
20. But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lord shall be
as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume
away.
21. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth
mercy, and giveth.
22. For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that
be cursed of him shall be cut off.
23. The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth
in his way.
24. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth
him with his hand.
25. I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the
righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26. He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
27. Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28. For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are
preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29. The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
30. The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh
of judgment.
31. The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
32. The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
33. The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is
judged.
34. Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit
the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
35. I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like
a green bay tree.
36. Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he
could not be found.
37. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that
man is peace.
38. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the
wicked shall be cut off.
39. But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their
strength in the time of trouble.
40. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them
from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
1. Hear ye now what the Lord
saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear
thy voice.
2. Hear ye, O mountains, the Lord's controversy, and ye strong foundations
of the earth: for the Lord hath a controversy with his people, and he
will plead with Israel.
3. O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied
thee? testify against me.
4. For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out
of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
5. O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what
Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye
may know the righteousness of the Lord.
6. Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high
God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year
old?
7. Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands
of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the
fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the
Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk
humbly with thy God?
9. The Lord's voice crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall
see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
10. Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked,
and the scant measure that is abominable?
11. Shall I count them pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag
of deceitful weights?
12. For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants
thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.
13. Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee
desolate because of thy sins.
14. Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be
in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver;
and that which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.
15. Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives,
but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not
drink wine.
16. For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house
of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation,
and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach
of my people.
1. In the beginning God created
the heaven and the earth.
2. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the
face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
4. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light
from the darkness.
5. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And
the evening and the morning were the first day.
6. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters,
and let it divide the waters from the waters.
7. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under
the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was
so.
8. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning
were the second day.
9. And God said, Let the waters under the Heaven be gathered together
unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.
10. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the
waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
11. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed,
and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself,
upon the earth: and it was so.
12. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his
kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his
kind: and God saw that it was good.
13. And the evening and the morning were the third day.
14. And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to
divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons,
and for days, and years:
15. And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give
light upon the earth: and it was so.
16. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day,
and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon
the earth,
18. And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light
from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
19. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
20. And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature
that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament
of heaven.
21. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth,
which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every
winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22. And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill
the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24. And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after
his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his
kind: and it was so.
25. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after
their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind:
and God saw that it was good.
26. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and
let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of
the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created
he him; male and female created he them.
28. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish
of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing
that moveth upon the earth.
29. And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which
is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the
fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and
to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I
have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.
31. And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very
good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
1. And seeing the multitudes,
he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto
him:
2. And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
3. Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
5. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
6. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for
they shall be filled.
7. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
8. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
9. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children
of God.
10. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for
theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and
shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
1. O Lord, thou hast searched
me, and known me.
2. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my
thought afar off.
3. Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with
all my ways.
4. For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest
it altogether.
5. Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain
unto it.
7. Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy
presence?
8. If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell,
behold, thou art there.
9. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts
of the sea;
10. Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11. If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall
be light about me.
12. Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the
day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's
womb.
14. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and
curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book
all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when
as yet there was none of them.
17. How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the
sum of them!
18. If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when
I awake, I am still with thee.
19. Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore,
ye bloody men.
20. For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name
in vain.
21. Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with
those that rise up against thee?
22. I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23. Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24. And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
1. James, a servant of God
and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered
abroad, greeting.
2. My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and
entire, wanting nothing.
5. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men
liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is
like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9. Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10. But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the
grass he shall pass away.
11. For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth
the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion
of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12. Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried,
he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them
that love him.
13. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot
be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and
enticed.
15. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when
it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16. Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down
from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow
of turning.
18. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should
be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19. Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow
to speak, slow to wrath:
20. For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness,
and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your
souls.
22. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your
own selves.
23. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto
a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth
what manner of man he was.
25. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth
therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this
man shall be blessed in his deed.
26. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue,
but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this,
To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself
unspotted from the world.

101. I have refrained my feet
from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.
102. I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.
103. How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to
my mouth!
104. Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every
false way.
105. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
1. That which was from the
beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which
we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life;
2. (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness,
and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was
manifested unto us;)
3. That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also
may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father,
and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
5. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare
unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we
lie, and do not the truth:
7. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from
all sin.
8. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth
is not in us.
9. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

14. Now therefore fear the
Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which
your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and
serve ye the Lord.
15. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you
this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served
that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites,
in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the
Lord.
16. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake
the Lord, to serve other gods;
17. For the Lord our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers
out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those
great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went,
and among all the people through whom we passed:
18. And the Lord drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites
which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the Lord; for he
is our God.
19. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he
is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions
nor your sins.
20. If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn
and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
21. And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.
22. And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves
that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are
witnesses.
1. Finally, my brethren, rejoice
in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous,
but for you it is safe.
2. Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.
3. For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice
in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
4. Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man
thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:
5. Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of
Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;
6. Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness
which is in the law, blameless.
7. But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of
the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss
of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9. And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of
the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness
which is of God by faith:
10. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship
of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
11. If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
12. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect:
but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended
of Christ Jesus.
13. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing
I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto
those things which are before,
14. I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in
Christ Jesus.
15. Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in
any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16. Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the
same rule, let us mind the same thing.
17. Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so
as ye have us for an ensample.
18. (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even
weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19. Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory
is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
20. For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look
for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21. Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto
his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to
subdue all things unto himself.
